Vegas BABY!

The "big kids" on the Davis side of my family planned a trip to Las Vegas with Grandma Sade in April. Unfortunately, grandma didn't live long enough to join us but did threaten to haunt us if we cancelled the trip :). So, we went for 3 fun-filled days in the sun (it snowed in Utah the week we left). It was a lot of fun and we fit a lot of tourist stuff into those 3 days.

The first night was spent on Fremont Street where there was a Sara Evans concert for free since the ACM's were that Sunday night at the MGM. Above: Alisca, Whitnee, and Beth

A huge but rewarding project

When Grandma Sade passed away in February, she had a huge dresser FILLED with pictures and other stuff. I took all of it home and over the course of the next month and a half, scanned each one into my computer. It has been a painstaking process, but definitely rewarding. I'm now in the process of organizing all of them so I can burn them to CD for all of my cousins to have.

There was a huge stack of letters and post cards that my Grandpa Gunner wrote to his mother when he was in Guam during the Korean War. So interesting to read and look through his pictures from that time. Here are a few samples:

A beautiful farewell to Grandma Sade

It was a beautiful day but very sad when we had to say goodbye to Grandma Sade. We appreciate everyone that came to the viewing and the graveside service. It is nice to feel loved by so many friends and family. Below is the weekend in pictures:

We are going to miss Grandma Sade very much but knowing that she had a joyful reunion with Grandpa Gunner, her parents, her brothers, Aunt Marilee, and her friends makes it a little easier. Her memory will live on in each of us and we will never forget her. We love you Grandma Sade :)

September 29, 1933 - February 7, 2011
Beatrice (Bea) Barton Davis “Grandma Sade” passed away peacefully the morning of February 7, 2011 after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Born September 29, 1933 in Cedar City, UT to Stephen Burrus and Ila Clark Barton. She graduated from Parowan High School class of 1951. She moved to Cedar City with her parents where she worked and met her sweetheart, Brent R. Davis “Gunner.” They were married July 11, 1953 in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in Southern Utah where their 3 children were born, Vance Brent, Vikki and Bonnie. In 1962 they moved to Fillmore, UT with Brent’s employment with UDOT. They lived in Fillmore, where Brent continued with UDOT and Bea worked as a waitress in many restaurants in Fillmore. She is survived by 3 children, Vance Brent Davis, Cedar City, UT; Vikki (Weston) Warner, Fillmore, UT; Bonnie (Kirk) Mundy, Holden, UT; 8 wonderful grand kids, that were the light of her life, and 8 very precious great grand kids; a loving sister, Genevieve (Billie) McConnell of Cedar City, UT; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillian (Clark) Barton, Cedar City, UT; June (Bruce) Barton, Torrey, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Brent “Gunner” Davis, daughter-in-law, Marilee Davis and brothers, Clark and Bruce Barton. Graveside services will be held Saturday February 12, 2011 at 12:30 pm. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Rasmussen Mortuary at (44 East Center Street) in Fillmore. Interment in the Fillmore City Cemetery. Enjoying the snow

Fillmore got about 25" of snow the week of Christmas. The kids were in HEAVEN. They love playing in the snow - Aunt Alisca, not so much. I did go out to take a few pictures of them but that's as cold as I like to get :)

This year for the ward Christmas party, Jesse was Joseph and Halle was a child listening to the Christmas story (she got to wear her pjs). Then, the guest of honor came. The kids were very excited to see Santa!
